Few Plumbing Techniques that will help You Solve Issues

We deal with several plumbing issues in our day to day lives. And not everyone can afford professional help from an expensive Oceanside plumber. These plumbers charge a handsome amount even for a simple 2 minute fix. You will be surprised to know that some of these plumbers purposely take up an hour to do a simple 5 minute fix so as to make some extra bucks. This is what your Oceanside Plumber is not telling you.

This article contains some useful and simple plumbing DIYs that you can do with some basic hardware tools and you do not need to call a plumber every single time.

How to fix the most common plumbing problems easily ?

1. Leaky faucets

Turn off the water supply from the main line. Remove the handle with the help of a screwdriver. Pull off the cartridge  or the O ring and replace it with a new one. Apply some heat proof grease on it. Carefully reassemble all the parts of the faucet like they were previously.

2. Replacing fixtures of a faucet

This is an easy job. Firstly, turn off the water supply from the main line. With a basin wrench, manually unscrew the water lines. You’ll see a lift rod which you have to disconnect. Remove all the nuts from its base. Wipe the drain and a new gasket needs to be installed at the base. All there’s left to do is place the new faucet in the holes of the sink and tighten the nuts. And you are good to go.

3. Replacing shower heads

The Costa Mesa plumbers have been using this technique forever. You have to remove the old shower head by using a wrench and then wipe off all the dirt and debris from the arm of the shower. Let it dry out. Now you need to wrap the threads with some Teflon tape. Place the new shower head and screw it tight. Test your new shower for any leaks and if so happens, feel free to use some more of that Teflon tape. More information available on the website of Costa Mesa Plumber.

4. Fixing runny toilets

If you find your toilet is leaking at the base you should replace the wax ring with a new one and tighten the t-bolts. There is one other way of fixing this. Check the valve to see if it is damaged. If so, get a new one and install it. Make sure it forms a tight seal. Now wait for a few minutes to see if the toilet is doing fine. Otherwise, call your plumber.

5. Clogged drains

To unclog drains manually, you can use this trick. Find the access point to your main line and open it with a professional tool. Once that’s done, push a plumber’s snake up the drain and break any clogs you find in the way. Keep pushing it up and retracting it vigorously. Pour some warm water into the drain to make sure all the remaining solids melt and flow out. Test the working of the drain after 5 minutes.
