How to check for corroded pipes?

If you notice any of the signs listed below it is telling you that your pipes are corroded and you need to call your Mira Mesa plumber right away.

Discoloration of water

If you see brownish water flowing from your pipes, it is a major sign of corrosion. The brown color is seen as water breaks up oxides causing discoloration. However, the brown color water can be seen due to other reasons also. In cases where the pipes were installed recently, the corrosion problem is not possible. Corrosion occurs usually in old plumbing systems. If the water remains brown for a long time that denotes how severe the situation is.

Strange taste

Rust, which is a major cause of pipe corrosion in water supply systems, can often cause the water to absorb too many minerals, resulting in an off-taste that is sometimes too strong to the person who tests the water. This could lead you to check with your water supply that the water is safe for your health and will soon be clean. Get the water tested to know if it is safe for consumption and other activities like washing, cleaning, etc.

Leaks

Leaks will be seen everywhere if pipes are destroyed due to corrosion. Inspect your plumbing system and notice if the leaks are concentrated in a single place or if they are distributed throughout the system. Once you determine this, you will understand how severe the situation is. A leak in the system mostly is a sign of corroded piping and you need to pay attention to avoid damage to your health.

Clogged pipes

Build-ups are a sign of corrosion in pipes. The pipes become narrow because of this and the water supply pressure reduces at the outlets. The place where the build-up or clogging is present cannot withstand water pressure and pipes can explode at these points. A rupture is a disaster to the plumbing system as these cannot be fixed easily. The entire system needs to be replaced in case of ruptures or explosions

If you feel any of this, call the Mira Mesa plumber for a fix.
