HOW TO FIX A LEAKY FAUCET

Fixing a leaky tap, is not even close to being as intimidating as it sounds Leaky faucets can be maddening. The dripping sound of it is oh so irritating and the water wastage is even more. Plumbing problems like these can be frustrating and require an immediate fix. Even if you don’t excel at plumbing skills, fixing a leaky tap would be a cake walk if you follow all the steps listed below.

The first thing you gotta do is, rush to your nearest supply store and get all the tools required to fix it. If you have no idea, you can think of finding a Carmel Valley Plumber.

LIST OF TOOLS REQUIRED-

1. Replacement washers

2. C wrench

3. O-rings

4. Screwdriver with a flat head

5. Penetrating oil

That’s it.

STEPS TO FIX A LEAKY FAUCET-

i. Cut the water supply

Before starting, you need to be very sure that the water supply of your tap is turned off. This should be done from the main line. If you fail to do so, chances are you’re going to make a mess.

ii. Remove the handle

Use your screwdriver to remove all the decorative cap from your handle. Unscrew the screw mounting the handle with the help of the oil which would act as a lubricant here and pull it off.

iii. Remove the stem

Loosen the nut which would expose the stem which you have to remove too. You need to pull the cartridge up. Check these parts for identifying the damage. You can even use needle-nose pliers to do the job.

iv. Replace the O-ring

Now it's time to inspect the O-ring. Cut off the old one by using a utility knife. This is the part which is usually responsible for the leak. Replace it with a new one. Don’t forget to rub some non toxic, heat proof plumber’s grease on them. On the off chance that you don't have the foggiest idea how to fix, at that point hiring a Hemet Plumber is gonna be a wise decision.

v. Reassemble

Now that all the damage is being taken care of. Reassemble all the parts of the faucet carefully. This is a very crucial step. You need to install the cylinder in the same direction it faced previously .

Now all that’s left for you to do is check if the faucet is functioning properly. Let the water supply from the main line on and test the functioning of the tap. If it is still leaky, you might want to contact a plumber to seek professional help. And if it’s smooth, you nailed it!

The plumber I hired used to deliberately take up more than an hour to fix this. But the Carmel Valley Plumber taught me how to fix it in less than 5 minutes. My plumber would charge the fee for the whole hour whereas the Hemet plumber was a modest man who taught me that you don’t always need a highly qualified professional to do the job. Replacing the damaged parts of your faucet this way is very simple and money saving. You can undertake this task as a simple science project and end up with good results. By doing this, you are going to spare that extra big bucks that this leak adds to your water bill.
